BE GOOD EVERYBODY!!!
Another cold day (but not so cold) in Oslo forcing me a creature accustomed to a warmer climate to keep himself inside once again because there was actually no need to step outside except to go make some food for the kids
Fortunately for I the creativity bug hit today and me must say it has been a long minute since it last happened and man it feels all right!!!
I still remember that brisk spring day in April 2007 in Reykjavik, Iceland when THIS IS REAL came to life. It was indeed my FIRST TIME in the production seat and not just me, myself and I behind a computer. It started in Studio History with my man Earmax (Magnus Jonsson) engineering and band mates Ingvar, Pétur, and Kristján H. on fender rhodes, guitar and bass, respectively. The next day the session was moved to Studio Syrland where Aron was steering the session. The time was approaching midnight and Mr. Gunz (Gunni) shows up with his drum set. 10 takes and we were done
, though Gunz wanted more
.
Aron and I stick around until the clock was sumwhere between 2:30 and 3am to make sense of all that drum banging. Early the next day my friend and partner in music THE VOICE (no need to elaborate) shows up to sing the way only she can. Done! Throw in some back up help from our friend Sandra and boom as simple as that THIS IS REAL is done, or is it? Speaking with my brother Mark Anthony Richards (where are u bro?) hhmmm…. sumthing is missing. Enter Eiður during the editing session with Kristján S. to lay down that muted bass line. Done! Not yet. Enter Roland (Cynic Guru) to lay down the strings. DONE!!!
Simple & sweet is my first production, no twisted complexities. Everything on the surface, innocent. Dare I say it? Something a mother could and would love. This is my mothers favorite song of ours. Makes her feel good. Its her enjoying a nice stroll in the car on an easy day song
Piz and Aron, thanks for the guidance and tips and for letting me watch you work behind the desk. Mark and Vic thanks for the tuff love and lessons. Emilá thanks for believing in your babygirl and me. K thank you for without you this song would be empty and perhaps non-existent.
made my way to a basketball prax wednesday night and man was it fun to feel the sweat runnin, the physical contact (elbows and all other incidental contact) and the need to react quick. I miss it all
woke up the next morning and I found myself looking for the train that ran over me. Man it was hurting so good.
Oh yeah its also good to know that I can still rise
So yes I’m MISSIN DA GAME!!!
cold / brisk day in OSLO. Good thing, the sun is shining.
good day to be inside and get a little creativity going. Lets see what me can come up with
stay tuned
Its early saturday morning had a session gig last night (26/11) with a local Norwegian artist my man AMAZONE @Blå (KOÈJU session). I walked thru the door of my home at approximately 4am… tired/ cold/ hungry. VERY COOOLD!!!!
Cook myself an early morning meal and fall asleep at who knows what time. OOOps … ooh know! I forgot to turn the computer off (with SKYPE ON AS WELL). So its about 9am I guess and I hear chirp…. Dawg tired (spoken in my Texas vernacular) I try to ignore it. Then comes chirp..chirp…chirp…chirp. Dammit its Snorri (antkind.com) on skype. Can´t ignore that one.
Another gig tonight with AMAZONE @Nomaden (in OSLO).
Only 4hrs of sleep but still feeling fresh and ready to go becuz life is good, FORWARD MOTION!!!
Well here I am yet another notch to add to my belt. THis was my first time carrying out the duty of producing sound and stage for big events. The event friday at Grand Hotel Oslo was definitely more personal to me because it involved Kenya & Nemor as performers. We had a sound tech for that one. Overall the day was great and a huge learning experience for me. Learned a lot more about properly producing live sound. You know do´s and dont´s. My day started at 8am going to the hotel to deliver equipment and build up the stage for the days festivities and ended about midnight breaking down the stage and moving equipment away. I was so tired that I couldnt sleep but in hind sight if I had to do it all over again I would because as I said I learned a lot.
Saturday was somewhat of a recoup day but even that day was filled with tying up loose ens for sunday´s event. THE 4TH OF JULY.
Again a long and tough day filled with more learning for myself. Me and my friend and bass player Krzysztof (Christpher) helped built one of the festival style stages from scratch. As I said a notch to the belt. Pk maybe its not exciting but for me it is because I have performed on quite a few of this but never really knew how much work goes into making it happen. To all sound and stage guys out there ” MUCH RESPECT DUE” I think at some point in the career (definitely early) all musicians should have to at least witness this process. It´s not an easy job. Very technical and physical. It is so easy to wanna cut corners or just plain forget things. Thats just the stage. Then comes sound and thats a whole other ball game. We want that big sound but man that stuff is HEEEEAVY!!!
This being my first time there were lots of mental and physical bumps and bruises but then thats always a factor with new beginnings. I am on point now and ready for the next. If anyone needs some help pulling things together, holla at ya buoy!
Well its going on 2am my time and I gotta wake up early and get me day going. Then on Thursday mornin its off to the WEST SIDE of NORGE for that guy from TX.
be good everybody
Good night everybody and be good.
